African Swine Fever (ASF) is a serious threat and the fiercest enemy of the pig industry, capable of destroying it as a commercial activity. A reliable vaccination program can significantly reduce this risk.
Around the world, there is growing recognition of trade in meat from vaccinated pigs. Ukraine can learn from global best practices to safeguard both animal health and meat export potential.
The ASF virus — with its complex genetic structure, numerous strains, and rapid mutation ability — has made vaccine development a daunting challenge. For decades, scientists have struggled to isolate a vaccine strain that is safe, effective, and does not lead to the spread of a modified live virus.
Recent breakthroughs in molecular biology and genetic engineering have sparked a new era of hope!
Ukraine is among the first countries to sign an agreement for the registration and distribution of the first ASF vaccine, developed by AVAC Vietnam JSC. Introducing an effective ASF vaccine could dramatically strengthen protection of Ukraine’s national pig population.
That is why the Center for Livestock Efficiency Improvement is launching the FIRST Online Course in Ukraine on the Basics of ASF Vaccination!
Specialists from pig farms are welcome to attend Ukraine’s first ASF vaccination course, which includes:
5 online webinars, 45 minutes each
5 quick knowledge tests
Ongoing knowledge assessment
What natural and artificial mechanisms drive the ASF epidemic?
Is it possible to fight ASF without destroying almost all pig farming resources?
How can vaccination be used as a control strategy?
What are the possibilities and types of ASF vaccination?
Why is ASF the biggest threat to industrial pig farming without vaccination?
How can ASF vaccination become the key tool to eliminate ASF in Ukraine?
Farm Managers, Directors, and Owners of Pig Complexes
Veterinary Doctors
Technologists working in pig farms
The course is taught by Andriy Ihorovych Buzun – an expert in ASF outbreak prevention at the Center for Livestock Efficiency Improvement, PhD in Veterinary Sciences, Head of the Laboratory for Pig Diseases at the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine of NAAS, with over 40 years of experience in animal disease research.
